I had an opportunity to attend a meeting with some folks who are much more qualified than I, to discuss establishing a standard for efficiency in fluid power systems.  As I listened, I was pleased to realize that I am not quite as alone as I had thought when it comes to an interest in providing more efficient systems.  One of the points that was made is that, an efficient component can be installed in an inefficient system and have very little benefit.  An efficient pump dumping is fluid across a relief valve is still a 100% inefficient system.  An efficient compressor providing 7 bar pressure to a system requiring only 3 bar and controlled with needle valves is an inefficient system.  We need to begin with a well-designed, efficient system, and then choose components that will enhance that efficiency.
