Winner Would ‘Love to Spread the Importance of Fluid Power’

The National Fluid Power Association’s Education and Technology Foundation has awarded $2,000 scholarships to 14 students studying fluid power technology.

The foundation’s goal is to help students in high schools, technical colleges, and engineering schools pursue interest in fluid power. One of the scholarship winners was Elizabeth Lincoln, who attends the University of Missouri and is enrolled in the engineering program. NFPA recently spoke to her about the award.

What does winning a Fluid Power Scholarship mean to you?
Winning the Fluid Power Scholarship means I will be able to focus on learning more about engineering and mechanics, which will help me succeed in my future! This scholarship will also help me become less dependent on my parents. College is hard to pay for, but hard work will get you through anything! Knowing that I am able to do that is extremely important to me.

Why did you choose to learn about fluid power?
I chose to learn about fluid power because I see the technology everywhere. I notice that a lot of machines wouldn’t work as smoothly if they didn’t have hydraulics and compressors. I would love to spread the importance of fluid power in everyday life!

What are your career aspirations? What type of fluid power job do you hope to get after you graduate?
I am attending the University of Missouri in Columbia, and I plan on majoring in general engineering. I hope to be able to return to the farm I grew up on. I would also love to work as a fluid power engineer and design more effective tools for the future.

NFPA will start accepting applications for 2021 scholarships on Jan. 1. For more information, contact Amy Zignego aazignego@nfpa.com.
