ControlAir Introduces Expanded Temperature Capability for Volume Boosters in Demanding Industrial Applications

AMHERST, NH, USA – ControlAir LLC, a leading manufacturer of precision pneumatic and electro-pneumatic control products, today announced the expansion of its High Capacity Volume Boosters to include an expanded temperature option. This enhancement significantly broadens the range of demanding industrial environments where the boosters can operate, offering greater reliability, durability, and performance consistency in extreme temperature conditions, including some steam applications.  EPDM is now an option that expands the operating temperature range to -65° to 284°F (-54° to 140°C).

The Type 6100/6200 High Flow Capacity Volume Boosters are a 1:1 signal to output relay that, when used with a positioner/actuator, are engineered to boost stroking speed in valve actuation systems where high flow and rapid exhaust are critical. An integral bypass valve provides system stability while allowing normal positioner airflow and precise valve actuation during small input changes. The soft valve seat design ensures tight shutoff and eliminates leakage during steady-state operation, reducing costly air consumption.

With the new expanded temperature offering, these boosters are now capable of operating in harsh outdoor or process environments—from freezing cold to elevated heat—making them ideal for industries such as oil & gas, chemical processing, power generation, and other temperature-sensitive applications. The added resilience helps ensure operational uptime, safety, and consistent control performance in extreme climates.

Type 6100/6200 applications include actuation of control valves used in chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and food processing markets. Other OEM applications include printing presses, textile machinery, tire machinery, air operated pumps, paper machinery, and paint spray systems.

The High Flow Boosters handle up to 250 psig (17.0 bar) supply air pressure and provide output air pressure of up to 150 psig (10.0 bar). Temperature limits are -40° to 200°F (-40° to 93°C) and -62° to 194°F (-52° to 90°C) for the low-temperature option. The expanded temperature option is -65° to 284°F (-54° to 140°C). Exhaust capacity reaches up to 80 scfm (2,264 Nl/min) with downstream 5 psig (0.4 bar) above a 20 psig (1.38 bar) setpoint. Supply pressure effect is 0.1 psig (0.007 bar) for a 25 psig (1.7 bar) change. The Type 6100 weighs 2.5 lbs. (1.13 kg), and the Type 6200 weighs 5.7 lbs. (2.60 kg). A choice of three output ports—1/4″, 1/2″, or 3/4” NPT—provides plumbing flexibility for easy hookup.
