Duplomatic MS Spa has contributed a futuristic engineering project to the Expo 2020 Dubai exposition, held in the United Arab Emirates from Oct. 1 to March 31, 2022.
Duplomatic was commissioned to create the hydraulic system for opening the roof of the United Arab Emirates pavilion. The project was designed by architect Santiago Calatrava in the form of hawk’s wings, the symbol of the host nation.
The project is the largest hydraulic system of its kind ever built, Duplomatic said in a press release. The system consists of a 1 mW power hydraulic unit, with a tank containing 20,000 liters (5,283 gallons) of oil, which distributes the pressurized oil to 46 hydraulic cylinders in 28 wings.
“Wing motion must be perfect from an aesthetic point of view,” Paolo Leutenegger, general manager of Duplomatic MS, said in the press release, “and this is helped by the architecture of the control electronics, featuring nine computers and a dedicated software, which manages over 2,000 control points distributed in the pavilion. The project is majestic.”
“The work is an expression of the Duplomatic Group’s vision of being a global technological player for innovative motion control solutions,” the company said in the press release. “It will remain on display for the ten months of the Expo but is destined to leave its mark on the history of the universal exposition.”
“Italy, as an official participating country, brings the excellence of its engineering to the Arabian Peninsula by transforming major technological challenges into effective and innovative solutions,” Duplomatic said in the press release.
