Herren Opens Consulting Company

Rance Herren, one-time president of the International Fluid Power Society and a well-known industry expert, has opened a consultancy focusing on hydraulic and pneumatic system design.

The company, Fluid Power SME, offers access to highly experienced, certified experts for objective, third-party design services and consultation, empowering clients to be more flexible and self‐sufficient in their decision making, according to a press release.

Herren, known throughout the fluid power industry as an expert on design, troubleshooting, and failure analysis, promises a sharp focus on technical competency and exceeding client expectations, he said in the press release.

“It is not always practical or cost effective to build up a design team to include every discipline for every project,” Herren said. “We do not sell components or systems. Rather, Fluid Power SME becomes an extension of our client’s team, providing all the expertise and resources needed to launch the hydraulic and pneumatic design phase of a project.”

Headquartered in Houston, Herren said the company offers expertise in areas such as:

  • hydraulic and pneumatic system design and component specification
  • software-driven circuit simulation and analysis
  • documentation and technical writing
  • component sourcing services
  • failure analysis and subject-matter expert witness
  • hydraulic and pneumatic training and certification preparation
  • general fluid power technical consultation

“Access to qualified fluid power expertise remains a challenge in every industry,” Herren said in the press release, “and with the ever-increasing skilled trades gap, it will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Collaborating with Fluid Power SME means our clients won’t have to become an expert themselves, freeing them to focus on other critical tasks. We strongly believe our model will become increasingly prevalent in industry.”

Fluid Power SME’s experts have decades of hydraulic and pneumatic application experience and backgrounds in design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, project management, and training, according to the press release.

Herren was president of IFPS in 2016 and holds multiple advanced fluid power certifications.
