Recently released products from Norstat Inc. promise to endure harsh environmental conditions, including wide temperature ranges.
Watertight enclosures
Norstat recently released Ecolab food-graded watertight enclosures that allow the ESO4 safety light curtain to be used in the harshest working environments, specifically those with exposure to water and steam.
The space saving EOS WTF and WTHF cylindrical enclosures are only 56 mm (2 inches) in diameter, have a tested IP 69K protection rating, and can withstand up to 80 bar (1,160 psi) to 100 bar (1,450 psi) of water jet pressure at a temperature of 80°C (176°F). The Ecolab food-graded version uses inert and nontoxic components that allow the WTF (watertight) and WTHF (watertight and heated) enclosures to be used in the food and beverage industry, where harsher environments and frequent washdowns are required. The WTHF version uses a thermostatically controlled heating system and can work at temperatures as low as -25°C (-13°F).
The enclosures also incorporate a valve to drain humidity and avoid condensation that may occur. These enclosures are made of polymethyl methacrylate with acetal resin DELRIN (POM-C) sealing caps, which have an anticondensation system that uses integrated GORE valves. These enclosures are available with POM-C and stainless steel fastening brackets, making them an excellent solution for environments with exposure to water and steam, washdown systems, and a variety of food-and-beverage-industry applications.
Automotive and Metri-pack connectors
Norstat introduced a new line of automotive and Metri-pack connectors. The connectors are available as a complete molded cable assembly that eliminates the need for time-consuming hand wiring. They can withstand harsh environmental conditions that could potentially damage electrical connections or systems, making them ideal for automotive, industrial, agriculture, or construction equipment applications, to name a few.
The automotive-style connectors are interchangeable with DT series connector systems, while the Metri-pack connectors are suitable for Metri-pack system coupling. Cables are available as PVC/PVC, PUR/PVC, or PUR/PUR. All connectors use a polypropylene housing material, can operate in temperatures from -25°C to 90°C (-13°F to 194°F) and are available in multiple cable lengths. The Metri-pack version comes as a three-pole connector, while the automotive version is available in a two- or four-pole configuration with options for male or female connector types.
Master coded RFID safety switches
Norstat Inc. recently introduced S-Type, Master Coded, RFID Safety Switch for high-risk safety applications. These master coded RFID safety switches are electronically operated, stand-alone safety switches designed to work with any safety relay. The S-type switch uses a unique, frequency operated, switching system ensuring that only an S-type actuator can be used to complete the switch-stopping operation, thereby preventing any unauthorized attempt at overriding the switch. The electronic design provides precision switching and on-switch indication for reliable operation. For high-risk applications, the switches offer excellent protection against manipulation, interference, or tampering.
The S-type tamper-proof safety switches feature agent resistant plastic enclosures encapsulated with epoxy resin for a protection level of IP67 and IP69. They can operate in extreme temperatures from -25°C (-13°F) to 55°C (131°F ) and are CE,TUV, and UL approved, making them suitable for harsh environments. The S-type safety switches are available in three sizes, the SS-R, SS-C, and SSS, and provide a variety of output contacts to suit different applications.
Vacuum and pressure switches with IO-Link
Norstat has introduced a line of vacuum and pressure sensors with a new IO-Link interface. IO-Link is a manufacturer-independent, globally standardized, bidirectional, digital point-to-point interface through which a controller can easily communicate with sensors and actuators. The IO-Link interface offers advantages that include reduced costs, easier communication, and simplified maintenance and servicing. Using extensive data, industrial processes can be monitored and controlled in detail and in real time. Modern information technology makes it possible to evaluate the data and optimize the processes based on that information. The primary objective is to manufacture faster, more efficiently, and more cost effectively. An intelligent interface such as IO-Link is essential in collecting data and allowing flexibility and control during production. The IO-Link can be easily integrated into existing systems, as it requires no special demands on wiring or mounting and runs via unshielded cables and standard industrial connectors.
