Wind Energy – From Wind Turbines to Grid Integration is a new, free online course from Alison that will be of interest to anyone currently studying wind energy production methods or wind turbine engineering. This course will also be useful to anyone who would like a career in the wind energy sector or anyone with an interest in wind energy technology and understanding of how wind turbines function.
People have been using wind power for millennia; it is far from a new phenomenon. However, with climate change becoming a reality and the demand for an increase in renewable energy methods, the number of modern wind power plants has risen exponentially over the last 40 years.
In this online course, participants will learn all about wind energy, from the different types of modern wind turbines and their use around the world, to the integration of wind-generated electricity into the main electrical grid system. The course begins by looking at the types of turbines that are commonly used, as well as some less commonly used turbines. Students will gain an understanding of the way that turbines function, how much of the wind’s power can be harnessed, and how it can generate electricity. Next, the course describes the methods of grid integration of wind power plants into the main electrical grid system.
